Air conditioning. After weeks of travel, we finally have air conditioning, and we don’t care if it makes us extra American, air conditioning is wonderful. Today we decided to sleep in since we had been running on 4-5 hrs of sleep for the past few nights. And we had initially planned to go on a free tour from the Spanish Steps to the Colosseum, but we were enjoying relaxing in the AC so much that we decided to stay in and map out the rest of our Rome trip instead.
After creating a pretty solid plan, we decided to grab some dinner at a nearby restaurant. One interesting thing that I didn’t know about Italy is that there are courses for meals at many restaurants. It’s common for people to have an appetizer, a first course (usually pasta), a second course (usually meat or fish), and a dessert or aperitif. Shelby and I decided to stick with just an appetizer and first course for our meal, and I’m glad we did because we were so full. We got tomato and basil bruschetta for our appetizer, and Shelby got spaghetti carbonara and I got spaghetti cacio e pepe. Everything was delicious. One other interesting thing is the affordability of wine. We ordered half a liter of wine and it was only 5 euros! The wine was a house blend, and it was very good. I can’t imagine going out in the States and getting about 4 glasses of wine for about $7.
After dinner, we walked to a Gelateria and it must be good because there was a line around the corner! We got lemon, Marsala wine, and limone gelato, and then decided to head home for the evening. Although we didn’t see much today, it was so nice to relax. And now we have a plan and are ready for tomorrow.
